Steps Through the Wilderness

My latest diorama, “Steps Through the Wilderness,” takes a significant departure from my usual themes of sci-fi and fantasy. This time, I ventured into the world of realism—a challenge that pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone. The centerpiece of this creation is a determined marathon runner, frozen mid-stride as he navigates an off-road trail surrounded by the raw beauty of nature.

The diorama captures the earthy tones and textures of the natural world, with a rugged rocky path cutting through tufts of wild grass and scattered stones. Unlike my typical work, this scene reflects the endurance and grit of a real person. Bringing this to life was both refreshing and challenging, as I focused on the subtle details that make the terrain feel authentic and immersive.

To add to the uniqueness of this project, I used one of my new, small circular diorama bases. Working on a compact base meant every detail had to count—there was no room for clutter. Balancing composition and realism on such a small scale tested my skills in new and exciting ways, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.
